Section Atmospheric Sciences
Description A mesoscale convective system over former Yugoslavia, fotographed from an altitude of 10300 m from an airliner (Duesseldorf-Thessaloniki). The position of the airplane was between Beograd and Sarajevo (around 44 deg 20 N 19 deg 33 E). Cumulonimbus clouds can be seen below, while above, extending up to the flightaltitude, are altostratus (or perhaps thick cirrus?) clouds.
